Bulldozers moved into Delhi Race Club on Thursday, demolishing its old stables, bookies ring, winning post and other key racing structures after the Indian government took possession of the 53‑acre site in central New Delhi. The news was reported by The Times Of India.The demolition followed a local court's refusal to halt an August 11 eviction order issued under India's public premises law, which requires the club to vacate land it has occupied for nearly a century.Club officials said most of the more than 250 horses have already been returned to owners, with the remainder to be moved within the next two weeks. Racing activities at the venue, which sits close to the prime minister's residence, have now stopped, and authorities have handed the site to the central public works department for care and maintenance.Of the more than 250 horses housed at the racecourse, only 52 remain on the premises. Around 200 have been taken back by their owners, while the remaining are expected to be moved out in the next one or two weeks, a club official said.“We have been given time until September 14 to sort everything out.
