People’s groups seek action on Dalit issues - The HinduPublished - August 27, 2026 11:37 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAMKVPS, CITU, AIDWA and DYFI activists stage a protest titled “Samajika Shankharavam”, seeking action on issues concerning Dalits, at the Collectorate in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. | Photo Credit: V RAJUThe Kula Vivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham (KVPS), CITU and other people’s organisations staged a protest at the Collectorate on Thursday seeking action on issues they said were affecting Dalit communities.KVPS State general secretary Andra Malyadri said Dalits continue to face caste discrimination and alleged that incidents of custodial deaths, murders, assaults, sexual violence, caste abuse and honour killings persisted. He said a month-long survey conducted across the State by the KVPS, CITU and other people’s organisations under the “Samajika Shankharavam” programme had brought several problems faced by Dalits to their notice.Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Workers’ Union State general secretary K. Lokanadham alleged that several welfare schemes for Dalits were not being implemented and that many Dalit colonies lacked drinking water, electricity, drainage and roads. He also alleged that land allotted to Dalits was being taken back for development projects.CITU Visakhapatnam district general secretary RKSV Kumar alleged that loans through the SC Corporation were no longer being given and that incentives for inter-caste marriages had been stopped. The organisations sought free electricity, basic amenities and filling of SC/ST backlog vacancies.
