Tottenham centre‑back Kevin Danso has opened up on what it feels like to score his first Spurs goal after finding the back of the net against Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup.Tottenham Hotspur will be feeling better about themselves after securing a victory on Wednesday night when they took to the field against Charlton Athletic.It was a 5-1 thrashing of the Championship side, with Spurs bouncing back from their 3-0 defeat last weekend in the Premier League in emphatic style.That victory has now seen Tottenham secure a spot in the next round against Liverpool at Anfield in what is sure to be a difficult test.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramKevin Danso reflects on first Tottenham goalKevin Danso was amongst those to get on the scoresheet last night, with the centre-back scoring his first-ever Tottenham goal with his first touch after coming off the bench.It was a well-taken header by Danso, who met Mateus Fernandes‘ beautiful cross into the box, although the goal came at some personal cost to the Austrian, whose head clashed with a Charlton defender.He was stitched up thereafter and has now opened up on what it means to score his first Spurs goal.He told the club’s official website: “Yeah, came on as a sub… managed to score with my first touch, that doesn’t happen too often, hasn’t happened in my career before, and it’s my first Spurs goal, so extremely happy about that. I was very annoyed. “I don’t know if you saw, but I wasn’t able to celebrate my goal properly with the fans, because I knew straight away when I got the whack on my head that it was pretty painful. But I think to score your first Spurs goal is definitely something special. It was a great feeling.”Despite the goal coming at a personal cost, Danso revealed he was delighted with his finish. He added: “No, I haven’t had a chance to watch it back. Obviously, once I made contact with the ball, I saw the goalkeeper dive into his own net, and judging by the reaction of the fans, I knew it went in.”The centre-back was also left pleased with the overall performance of his teammates, who showed resilience, bouncing back after the weekend’s defeat. He continued: “Definitely. I think it was very important after the weekend, looking forward… I think we are building a great squad, we have a big season ahead of us.“I feel like games like this is exactly, sometimes, games you need just to build that confidence. I think everything won’t happen overnight, but we’re building. If we continue to stay focused, no matter how big or how small the game is… we just keep working, we take every game as a big game, fully focus and continue to build… we want to become a really strong team and a squad.”Danso eyes Newcastle test after Spurs responseFor Tottenham, a clash against Newcastle United is next in the Premier League, and that will be no easy task, something Danso also acknowledged.But he does believe that Wednesday’s game will prove helpful ahead of the weekend. “Definitely I think every game is helpful. No matter how big, no matter how small, it’s a chance to improve, put things into play that we’ve been working on on the training pitch. “Like I said we want to build something really, really good. We want to achieve our goals that we have set for ourselves.”The centre-back then revealed what is needed if one is to be a De Zerbi player and what the atmosphere within the dressing room is like following the latest victory.He continued when asked about what is needed from a De Zerbi player: “Just playing with a lot of character, like I said, doing what we do on the training pitch, bringing it out, performing.“We know every game is tough… making sure we’ve got the fight, as well as the quality we have… I mean showing the quality that we do have in the team on the pitch when it’s game time.”And on what the atmosphere is like in the changing room ahead of the clash against Newcastle, he added: “We definitely know it’s going to be tough, like every game. But we’re looking forward to it, a chance to do better than last weekend, so i think everyone’s looking forward to it.“Everybody’s looking to show a better face than at did last weekend.
