Tottenham have been told they have made a major transfer blunder by selling Will Lankshear this summer, with the young forward tipped to become the next Harry Kane.Tottenham Hotspur‘s business this summer transfer window has not solely been about getting new additions into the club. The Lilywhites have also been busy with sales, with as many as 11 players having already departed from north London either permanently or on loan.Cristian Romero, Luka Vuskovic, and Djed Spence stand as Spurs’ big-money sales so far, while a few academy departures have also helped to bring some money into the Lilywhites’ coffers. Will Lankshear is one such academy sale, with Tottenham selling the 21-year-old for £20 million to Middlesbrough, including add-ons.Credit: @myho_0218 / InstagramTottenham could regret £20 million Will Lankshear saleThe former Tottenham forward now appears to have burst onto the scene in the Championship, delivering a stellar start to the season with three goals in his opening two games – including a late winner in Middlesbrough’s last outing against Lincoln City.Such performances, however, are not surprising as Lankshear showed his quality while on loan with Oxford United last campaign, where he scored 14 goals in the Championship.Lankshear’s striker coach Scott Chickleday, who’s worked with the forward for the past couple of years, feels the former Spurs striker has world-class potential and could become the next Harry Kane in two years.“Sometimes you come out of the session and you are like, this one is special. You just get that feeling,” he told Sky Sports.“It is his mentality. He wants to be the best. He wants to be the No 1 striker in England. And then obviously he wants to be the No 1 in the world too. And I really would not be surprised in two years’ time if he is Harry Kane’s replacement.“I do not want to talk about moves at the minute because Middlesbrough will probably kill me. He has only been there five minutes. But I think he is two moves away from being a £100m striker if he keeps developing and doing well – and I think he will.”Spurs may regret sale but hold future advantageIt is too early to tell if Spurs‘ decision to sell Lankshear is a blunder, but the early signs will surely leave Tottenham scratching their heads.Spurs seem to be aware of the forward’s potential and managed to include a matching right for his next move, which should allow the Lilywhites the opportunity to match any bid offered for the young forward in the future. However, there is no buy clause for Lankshear. Tottenham are currently in the market for a striker, and many fans believed Lankshear could have at least been a third-choice option this season. The young striker, however, wanted regular minutes, hence why he was sold. Tottenham will now be keeping a close eye on his development as Lankshear continues to improve.READ MORE: How much Omar Marmoush earns at Man City compared to new Tottenham wage billThe post Tottenham warned they just sold a future £100m star for one fifth the price appeared first on Spurs Web.
