The EFL Cup third round matchups are set with two additional clubs set to clinch their places on Thursday. Chris Richards, Brenden Aaronson, and Aidan Morris are three American players that are scheduled to be part of the next round. In addition, Tyler Adams, Max Arfsten, and Sebastian Berhalter will also be part of the third round while Antonee Robinson could still seal his spot. Richards and Crystal Palace will enter the third round against Morris, Berhalter, Arfsten and Middlesbrough. The Eagles’ European involvement earned them a bye for the second round while Middlesbrough defeated Doncaster Rovers 3-1 away from home. Arfsten and Berhalter logged 57 minutes in the victory while Morris played 33 minutes off of the bench. Adams and Bournemouth will take on Lincoln City at the Vitality Stadium in the third round. The Cherries also received a second-round bye while Lincoln City brushed aside Blackpool 4-1. Aaronson made a second-half cameo in Leeds United’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, setting them up with a trip to either Chelsea or Luton Town. Chelsea hosts Luton Town in one of Thursday’s two final second round ties.Should Haji Wright return from his injury in time, he could be part of Coventry City’s home date with Aston Villa. George Campbell and West Bromwich Albion suffered elimination on Wednesday after a 3-2 loss to Newcastle United at St. James Park. Campbell continued to serve as team captain and also logged 90 minutes in the loss. Kristoffer Lund and Birmingham City suffered a 6-1 home hammering at the hands of high-flying Brentford while Charlie Kelman and Damion Downs did not feature in their clubs’ respective second round matches.
