Clubs cannot, in principle, face teams from their own domestic association during the league phase.That means Arsenal cannot be paired with any of the other English clubs involved in this season’s competition.The 36 teams will all compete in one league table, rather than the traditional Champions League groups. Every result therefore contributes towards Arsenal’s position in the overall standings.The top eight teams at the end of the league phase qualify automatically for the last 16, while the clubs finishing between ninth and 24th enter the knockout phase play-offs.
