Silvio Scerri is stepping down as Chairman of ONE, bringing his tenure at the helm of the Labour Party’s media organisation to an end.Scerri described his time leading ONE as one of the greatest honours of his professional career, saying he leaves the role proud of what the station achieved under his chairmanship.He thanked Prime Minister and Labour Party leader Robert Abela for the trust placed in him to lead ONE during what he described as a crucial period for the station.Scerri highlighted ONE’s audience growth during his tenure, as well as efforts to strengthen the quality, relevance and impact of its content, particularly during the recent election campaign.He credited these results to ONE’s employees, praising the team’s dedication, professionalism and commitment throughout his time as chairman.“It has been a privilege to serve alongside such dedicated colleagues, and I am confident that ONE will continue to build on these strong foundations in the years ahead,” Scerri said.His departure comes as the Labour Party announced changes to the leadership of its media and communications operations.Edward Montebello will take over as Chairman of ONE’s Board of Directors from 21st September, while also assuming the role of the Labour Party’s Head of Communications.Montebello previously spent 13 years at ONE and has served as the Government’s Head of Communications within the Office of the Prime Minister for the past four years.Scerri will meanwhile remain CEO of Xjenza Malta, Malta’s national agency for research and innovation.The Labour Party thanked Scerri for his service as he prepares to hand over the chairmanship next month.•
