Two Romanian men have pleaded guilty to a string of thefts carried out across several of Malta’s busiest localities over the space of just six days.Razvan Aurel Stefan, 44, and Niculae Vasile, 56, admitted to all charges brought against them when they were arraigned before the Court of Magistrates yesterday as reported by Malta Today.The thefts took place between 15th and 21st August, targeting victims in Gżira, Sliema, Msida and Valletta.According to the charges, cash, identity documents and other personal belongings were among the items stolen.The first theft took place in Gżira on the morning of 15th August, with another victim targeted in the same locality later that night.The following morning, the pair stole cash, documents and other belongings valued at more than €232 but less than €2,329 from another victim. That theft was aggravated by violence and the number of people involved.Hours later, another aggravated theft was carried out in Sliema, with the charges citing the value of the stolen items, violence, the number of people involved and the fact that the offence took place after sunset.The pair then struck at Valletta’s bus terminus on the night of 17th August, before another theft involving cash, identity documents and other belongings was carried out in Msida on 19th August.Another victim was targeted in Triq it-Torri, Sliema, on 20th August, in an offence which was also aggravated by value and violence.The final theft listed in the charges took place in Valletta between 11am and 1pm on 21st August.In total, the charges detail eight thefts across the six-day period.Stefan was separately charged with being a recidivist following previous final judgments handed down by the Court of Magistrates.Both men pleaded guilty to all charges, with sentencing postponed until 1st September.Defence lawyer Lennox Vella represented the two accused, while the prosecution was led by Inspector Lydon Zammit, assisted by lawyer Clive Aquilina from the Office of the Attorney General.•
