Maltese contemporary artist Fabio Borg is set to unveil his latest solo exhibition, Ħafna Nies fil-Kamra, at il-Kamra ta’ Fuq in Valletta, transforming the intimate gallery space into a thought-provoking exploration of human connection, identity and belonging.Opening on 28th August at 7.30pm and running until 13th September, the exhibition has been curated by Melanie Erixon and presents a new body of work that blurs the line between abstraction and figuration. At first glance, Ħafna Nies fil-Kamra appears to be exactly what its title suggests, a room full of people. Yet Borg’s figures are intentionally anonymous, stripped of the social markers that usually define identity. There are no clues about profession, status or background, leaving viewers to engage with the subjects on a more universal level.Through a restrained semi-abstract style, Borg focuses on the shared experiences that connect people rather than the differences that separate them. The works invite audiences to reflect on authenticity, vulnerability and the common humanity that exists beneath carefully curated public images. The exhibition also offers a subtle commentary on contemporary culture, questioning the importance placed on appearances and visibility in an age increasingly dominated by self-presentation. By reducing his figures to their most essential forms, Borg encourages visitors to look beyond the surface and consider what truly defines a person. The show marks another milestone in Borg’s artistic journey. A visual artist of Maltese and Italian heritage, he trained at the Malta Society of Arts and the Malta School of Art before continuing his artistic development in Italy. His career was notably shaped by the mentorship of the late Gabriel Caruana, who encouraged his first solo exhibition in 1999.Since then, Borg has exhibited extensively both locally and abroad, including a major solo exhibition at Rome’s Galleria Vittoria in 2022 and a showcase at Konsum163 in Munich earlier this year.Known for his energetic brushwork, layered surfaces and emotionally driven compositions, Borg’s recent work introduces figurative elements into his abstract practice, creating expressive forms that speak to memory, movement and the complexities of human experience.Ħafna Nies fil-Kamra opens at il-Kamra ta’ Fuq on 28th August and runs until 13th September. For more information, visit the exhibition’s Facebook event page.•
