PGA Tour considers drastic action as golf world left appalled by sponsor’s advert

The PGA Tour are expected to dump Good Good as their sponsors amid the increasing backlash surrounding the content creators’ recent controversial advert.Good Good, and golf equipment manufacturer Callaway, released a commercial over the weekend for a new driver collaboration which included a scene where a woman was pushed to the ground.Callaway and Good Good’s now-deleted commercial features Alexis Miestowski reaching for a golf bag and being pushed overYouTubeThe ad immediately came under fire and was quickly deleted.Callaway issued an apology statement and Good Good followed suit but the incident has continued to receive heavy scrutiny.Several major sport retailers in the States have removed Good Good products from their stores and now it seems the PGA Tour are going to take action too.The YouTube channel was set to be the lead sponsor for the inaugural Good Good Championship which was to be held in Austin in November as part of the FedEx Cup Fall schedule.View Tweet: https://x.com/CallawayGolf?ref_src=twsrc%5EtfwBut The Telegraph reports that the PGA Tour are almost certain to remove Good Good as their partner and have a number of other sponsor options ready to fill in to make sure the Texas event goes ahead.PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp was asked about the controversial advert at the TOUR Championship this week and was critical of Good Good’s response to the backlash.He said: “I think what we saw was concerning, is clearly not aligned with PGA Tour values.“We take it very seriously. I think their initial response was disappointing. It was a bit defensive and late. But I think the responses are getting better.“We’ve had some conversations with them, so we’ll continue to monitor and work with them going forward. But now, we were disappointed with what we saw.”Garrett Clark is the co-founder of Good Good Golf and was the man depicted in the advert knocking over the woman who was about to touch his Callaway driver.The Good Good advert depicted a woman being shoved to the ground by a manYouTubeClark posted a lengthy video on Wednesday night reacting to the furore surrounding his company.He said: “I personally want to apologize for playing the role in this skit, in this ad, at the magnitude that I did.“This is not at all what we stand for, the way this ad was received, is not how Good Good is, and it’s not what we stand for.“I want everyone to know that I don’t support DV [domestic violence] or abuse or any of that to any, of any kind.Callaway have also come under fireGetty“Good Good messed up by supporting a very poor-taste ad that was not good in any way, shape or fashion but hopefully you guys can forgive Good Good as well as myself for being a part of it, and hopefully we can move on and grow the women’s side of golf, because that is one of our huge, huge goals.”Callaway CEO, Chip Brewer, has also issued an apology, saying: “The approval never should have happened.“Mistakes were made, and we are taking the matter very seriously,” Brewer said in a statement posted on Callaway’s social media channels.“As we deal with the consequences of our mistake and complete our investigations, I want to make it clear that we sincerely apologise for the video.”
