Eberechi Eze made the step up from Crystal Palace to Arsenal in the summer of 2025, moving to a club where expectations are considerably higher. While he was already a popular figure at Palace, earning praise for his performances, life at the Emirates has brought a different level of scrutiny.Eze has shown his quality on several occasions, particularly when facing Tottenham, but producing those performances consistently remains a challenge. At Arsenal, individual moments of brilliance are not enough, as players are expected to deliver regularly and fit into the team’s tactical system.Eze faces pressure to improve at ArsenalSince joining the Gunners, Eze has struggled to maintain the consistency needed to establish himself as a trusted option for his manager. He continues to feature for Arsenal, but inconsistent displays and competition for places have limited his opportunities. The difference between playing for Crystal Palace and Arsenal can be significant. At Palace, Eze was already a leading figure, whereas at Arsenal he must compete with talented teammates and meet the demands of a club expected to challenge for major honours.Paul Merson believes the midfielder needs to recognise those differences and raise his level. Speaking about the demands of playing for a major club, he pointed to Eze as an example of how the expectations can change after a transfer.(Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images)Merson explains the demands of a big clubMerson believes players at Arsenal cannot rely solely on individual talent or freedom on the pitch. They must perform consistently, follow the team’s structure and understand that every appearance matters when competition for places is intense. As quoted by Caught Offside, he said:“I’ve played for big teams, and I’ve played for teams that weren’t big – it’s a different game. Eberechi Eze is a prime example. It’s so, so different.“He was substituted at half-time against Forest, but if he played like that for Crystal Palace, he would still be on the pitch. You’ve got to perform at Arsenal. You’ve got to play in a shape. You can’t just play your own game. You can’t be a free spirit at big clubs anymore.”Merson’s assessment highlights the pressure Eze faces as he tries to secure a more regular role. Arsenal need reliable performances from every attacking option, particularly when competing across multiple competitions._____________________________________________________________________________________________ADMIN COMMENTSo here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans.
