As a hacker my work lives on my computer. I can put my phone in another room if it is too distracting, or I can use Brick or something like that for my phone. But my computer has a browser, and that browser has Reddit, Hacker News, all the distracting stuff. It makes it really hard to get stuff done sometimes, especially because I have ADHD. It was so bad that out of desperation I ended up building a distraction blocker app where you can only turn off the blocker if a specific USB device is inserted. You see, I had used other blockers in the past for both my phone and my computer and the problem was that I would always just use the "temporary override" button whenever I felt the urge to be distracted. Physically separating the "off switch" from the distraction device makes all the difference. I can actually get things done now! It was so helpful for me personally that I turned it into an app that other people can download and use. And it works on Windows, MacOS, *and LInux.* Hope somebody gets some use out of it. It is called Talysman, you can check it out at talysman.app submitted by /u/Hope-New [link] [comments]
