Early in my career I helped develop Picture Man, a popular image editor in the early 90s. Pixtorium is my attempt at what an editor should be now, having an expected rich feature set yet simple, and AI-native. A few things that make it different: - Paint with any effect. Choose the brush, then any of a few hundred effects (blur, oil paint, watercolor, rain on glass, a swirl, a mosaic) and paint it exactly where you want it. - Ask in plain words: "make it warmer", "crop to a square", "remove the red eye". The assistant uses the same tools you have, and every step lands in History, ready to undo. - On-device AI: select a subject, remove a background or an object, enlarge. The models run on your computer. - Your AI agent can drive it. The desktop app has a built-in MCP server, so Claude Code, Codex or Claude Desktop can edit your open pictures while you watch. - No subscription. The editor is free in the browser with no account; the desktop app (Windows, Mac, Linux) is free during the beta. It's in open beta, so expect rough edges. Try it: https://pixtorium.com/?ref=reddit-sideproject What I'd most like to know: what would make you switch from what you use now (Photopea, GIMP, Photoshop), and what's the first thing that annoyed you? submitted by /u/siberiankot [link] [comments]
