New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Communications, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has criticised Vice-President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for not publicly commenting on allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai.Mr Aboagye said the Vice-President’s silence was disappointing, particularly given the expectations of women and girls that she would speak out on matters concerning their safety, rights and welfare.Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV, he argued that as Ghana’s first female Vice-President, Professor Opoku-Agyemang was expected to take a more visible stance on issues relating to the protection of children, especially girls. He said her position in government offered her a unique platform to advocate for female students and express concern over allegations of abuse involving minors.“People expect to hear the Vice-President’s voice, whether you like it or not. They expect that the female Vice-President should stand up for girls, should stand up for the female child. And the silence is very loud,” he said. His comments come in the wake of the suspension and interdiction of Mr Abdulai over allegations of gross sexual misconduct and abuse involving multiple female students at the school.According to the police, a 20-year-old Form Two student of Obuasi SHTS, accompanied by her father, lodged a complaint with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Obuasi on August 4, 2026.The allegations have drawn attention to concerns about the protection of students and the need for appropriate investigations into reported cases of sexual misconduct in educational institutions.
