Peter Schmeichel was a world-class goalkeeper, so when he sees another one, he can tell and believes David Raya is such a player. Arsenal signed Raya amidst a lot of drama and criticism, and Schmeichel is one of the people who did not believe they needed him when they had Aaron Ramsdale.Ramsdale was an expensive signing by the Gunners not long before Mikel Arteta felt the need to sign Raya, and the rest is history. Raya managed to dislodge the Englishman and helped Arsenal end their wait for the league title last season, while Ramsdale cannot even get game time at Southampton in the Championship.Schmeichel’s Praise for RayaBoth their career paths have gone differently, and Schmeichel admits that without Raya in goal, Arsenal still would not have won a league title since 2004. He said via the Metro:‘I have to give Mikel Arteta some credit, because when Aaron Ramsdale was playing for Arsenal, I thought he did really well.‘I liked his aggression, flying out and all of that, so I was surprised they brought another goalkeeper in, and that it was him [Raya].‘But I interviewed him last season when they won the championship, and I said, “Just so you know, if you had not been in that goal, you would have been nowhere near the championship.”’(Photo by Mark Thompson/Getty Images)Raya’s Impact and Legacy at ArsenalRaya has been superb and has made himself one of the best goalkeepers in the world, so he deserves all the praise he is getting at the moment. His shot-stopping and distribution have been key to Arsenal’s success, and Schmeichel’s praise reflects his standing in the game. The goalkeeper’s journey from criticism to acclaim is a testament to his quality, and his role in the title win cannot be overstated. Ramsdale’s struggles elsewhere highlight the fine margins in football, and Raya’s consistency has been a revelation. Arsenal’s decision to sign him has been vindicated.Supporters will hope he can maintain this level, as his presence gives the team confidence. Raya’s influence extends beyond saves, with his composure and leadership also vital. His legacy at Arsenal is already secure, and the coming seasons will only add to it.The Gunners’ investment in him has paid off, and his status as one of the world’s best is well earned. Schmeichel’s endorsement carries weight, and Raya’s performances justify the praise. His journey is one of the success stories of recent years._____________________________________________________________________________________________ADMIN COMMENTSo here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans.
