David Haye believes that Fabio Wardley will get seriously hurt if he continues to compete at the elite level.Haye expressed his concerns during a recent appearance on the talkBOXING podcast in the aftermath of Wardley’s crushing defeat to Daniel Dubois. There are question marks surrounding Wardley’s future after a second punishing defeat to DuboisGettyDuring their inaugural encounter in May, Dubois picked himself up off the canvas twice to dispatch Wardley in the 11th round of a gruelling Fight of the Year contender. When they renewed their hostilities over the weekend, Dubois endured no such adversity.Instead, ‘Triple D’ dished out a one-sided beating that was over in two rounds. The comprehensive defeat raised alarm bells for Haye, who gave a brutally honest assessment of Wardley’s ceiling to talkSPORT’s panel of Simon Jordan, Spencer Oliver and Paul Smith.Haye sums up Wardley’s chance of returning to the top“Wardley made no adjustments in regards to the fight that he was in,” said former cruiserweight and heavyweight world champion, Haye.“He is going to really struggle staying at this level.“I really like Wardley; amazing toughness. You can’t touch his toughness.“But the unfortunate part is he has missed too many lessons early on in his career.“The balance: he is so far on his front leg, his head is over to one side.“He could continue in this division and have some great fights, but it is not going to be good for his health.”Haye believes Wardley will ‘really struggle’ at the elite levelGettyWardley took an unconventional route into boxing, lacing up a pair of gloves for the first time at 21 years old for a white-collar bout. The Ipswich puncher fought four times on the unlicensed circuit, while balancing a full-time job as a recruitment consultant. A year later, he turned over as a professional and embarked on one of the most remarkable rises in the sport’s history, winning a WBO heavyweight title in the process. At 31 years old, Wardley still has time to rebuild and is expected to make a far more careful ascent up the heavyweight mountain. He will also likely take an extended break following punishing back-to-back defeats to Dubois.Watch Boxing on DAZN*If you click a link in this boxout, we will earn affiliate revenueSign up to DAZN to access the definitive subscription for boxing fans.Upgrade to DAZN Ultimate from just £24.99/month, guaranteeing access to 185+ fights annually, a minimum of 12 pay-per-views at no extra cost, as well as every Lega Serie A match and other elite football access.Alternatively, DAZN Standard is just £15.99/month, with the caveat you will have to pay for pay-per-view events.Click here to sign up.
