Far Bridge Tunes Up For Breeders Cup at Belmont

Wait 5 sec.

'TDN Rising Star' presented by Hagyard Far Bridge (English Channel) breezed four furlongs over the Belmont turf course in :51.60 Friday morning in advance of his appearance in the GI Longines Breeders' Cup Turf at Keeneland on Oct. 31.The veteran, ninth to Rebel's Romance (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the 2024 Turf, worked in the company of maiden 2-year-old stablemate Chief of Peace (Munnings) to the satisfaction of his trainer Miguel Clement. Far Bridge began his work a few lengths behind his workmate before gradually reeling him in to have his head in front on the wire.“Plan was something easy, he's fit, just look after him, he's plenty fit enough,” said Clement. “He's running back a bit quick off a long layoff. I got him finishing very well. He looks great. It's a very ambitious entry, but the horse is doing well.”A son of the 2007 Turf hero English Channel, Far Bridge posted the 10th victory of his career in the GIII Pan American Stakes at Gulfstream Park Mar. 28 but was not seen again until the GI Joe Hirsch Turf Classic on Oct. 1. Settled towards the back of that compact field early on, the bay made good headway in the stretch to run fellow Turf hopeful Minaret Station (Instilled Regard) to a half-length.Clement said that John Velazquez, who was aboard Far Bridge for the first time in the Turf Classic, has the call next Saturday. The 6-year-old is scheduled to ship to Keeneland on Saturday, arriving in the Bluegrass the following day.The Clement-trained 'TDN Rising Star' presented by Hagyard Deterministic (Liam's Map) worked five-eighths of a mile over the Oklahoma Training Track in 1:00.18 prepping for the GI FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile. He was a latest second to the re-opposing and defending Mile hero Notable Speech (GB) in the GI Woodbine Mile on Sept. 12.“Fantastic, spectacular work,” Clement said. “That was one of his best works to date. That means a lot because he's always been a spectacular work horse, so that actually means a lot that yesterday was probably the best work of his life. Solo, on the dirt, one minute and a fifth, which is amazingly fast for the Oklahoma this time of year.”The Clement stable has three runners for the 'Future Stars Friday' program: 'TDN Rising Star' Brickyard Belle (Yaupon, Juvenile Turf Sprint); Citrus Springs (Olympiad, Juvenile Fillies Turf); and Oscar (Oscar Performance, Juvenile Turf).“I've got William Buick for Oscar, Kendrick Carmouche for Deterministic, Manny Franco for Citrus Springs [and] Brickyard Belle,” Clement said of riders he has lined up.Brown Babies Breeze at BelmontFive-time champion trainer Chad Brown sent out a pair of Breeders' Cup Friday contenders for works over the Belmont Park main track on Friday morning.Headed for the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Gaudreau (Nyquist) covered a half-mile in :48.75 while working to the inside of the 4-year-old gelding Nuanced (Complexity). The $220,000 Fasig-Tipton October yearling proved best in the key Saratoga maiden that also produced next-out 'Rising Stars' Coach Pope (Tapit) and U. S. S. Valor (War of Will). The latter added the GI Champagne Stakes to his CV in impressive fashion over Gaudreau, but is skipping the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile.“It was maintenance really and very happy with the way he did it,” said assistant trainer Lee Vickers. “He did it all well on the bridle, looked comfortable and moved really well, which is all you could be looking for.”Domestic Agenda (American Pharoah) is perfect in her two starts to date, including the GIII Miss Grillo Stakes, and was clocked in :49 flat while working to the outside of debut winner Mirouit (Good Magic).“It was a very good work,” Vickers said. “With the American pedigree, they tend to handle the dirt OK. She went very good over it. We're very happy and all is good going into next week. Fingers crossed.”The post Far Bridge Tunes Up For Breeders Cup at Belmont appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
