Site: https://thedeepcut.vercel.app Code (MIT): https://github.com/mizerrrr/the-deep-cut I got tired of streaming recommendations that keep circling the same artists, and the Internet Archive has a huge music collection that is almost impossible to browse. So I made a page that draws six albums at random from it: Jamendo, Netlabels, the Free Music Archive, Unlocked Recordings, digitized LPs, plus Brazilian and Latin American collections. Nothing is ranked by plays or personalized. You can filter by era, from the 60s to 2025–26. What took most of the work: - The Archive's search API stops at result 10,000, so each search picks a random sort and a random page, and big collections are first sliced by a random title prefix. - "Audio" doesn't mean "album". An item needs 4+ distinct tracks and an original cover image. Podcasts, radio, lectures and audiobooks are dropped. - The Archive's "year" is often just the upload date, so a 1971 LP can look like a 2025 release. The site uses the year the record itself states and ignores dates that only match the upload. - For 2025+ releases, it skips albums that declare Suno/Udio or carry AI image generator file names on the cover. It's a heuristic, so some get through. - The page colors come from each cover. Plain HTML/JS, no framework and no dependencies, on Vercel. It installs as a web app with lock screen controls. Saved albums and history stay in your browser, no account. I'd love feedback, especially albums that slipped through the filters, or Archive collections I'm missing. submitted by /u/BlackParkingPrint [link] [comments]
