Building a deterministic power vs. temp log analyzer for data centers—looking for technical critique

Wait 5 sec.

Hey everyone, I've been talking to some data center infrastructure folks about cooling failures. My initial thought was to build an "Al anomaly detector," but I got instantly flamed by engineers pointing out the obvious: why use a black-box Al when you can just deterministically cross-reference power draw and temperature logs? They were right. So I stripped out the hype and built a lightweight script that maps power load directly against ambient/rack temp trends to spot HVAC inefficiencies early. Before I code any further, 'a love some feedback from anyone with server room or infrastructure experience: 1. Are power-to-temp correlation anomalies actually the best indicator of early cooling failure, or should I be looking at something else (like fan RPM velocity curves)? 2. If you've dealt with this, what format do your historical telemetry logs usually live in (CSV, SNMP traps, Prometheus metrics)? Not trying to sell anything-just trying to build a clean utility that actually makes sense. Would love your technical thoughts! submitted by /u/ResponseDue7999 [link] [comments]
