For more reasons than I can count on both hands, this plan is absolutely nonsensical to me. I genuinely believe this will drastically erode healthcare quality and it’s very upsetting. I’ve also heard about plans to reduce beds. But. How???? We need MORE beds. We have an ageing population that will live longer than our grandparents did/are which will coincide with greater numbers of cancer and other age related degeneration. This is so so freaky. One has to wonder what level of education and common sense these decision makers have. “The Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) argues that replacing skilled RNs with other categories permanently degrades clinical care and creates hazardous gaps in patient safety.” “When a patient takes a sudden turn, you need a registered nurse there. RNs are specifically trained to have the clinical skills to see warning signs before a health crisis gets worse, and to rescue patients when their lives are on the line,” says ONA Provincial President Erin Ariss, RN. “Cutting or replacing RNs is not a harmless staffing shuffle. It removes the professionals who have the expertise to save lives when seconds matter.” Ona.org submitted by /u/Littleclipse [link] [comments]
