Alan Shearer makes Chelsea vs Tottenham prediction after watching Spurs beat Coventry

Wait 5 sec.

Alan Shearer has backed Chelsea to beat Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, despite Spurs finally picking up their first Premier League win of the season. The former Newcastle United striker was not particularly impressed by what he saw from Roberto De Zerbi’s side against Coventry City on Monday evening in N17.Shearer warned last week that Tottenham could find themselves in a relegation battle if they failed to beat Frank Lampard’s side. Spurs responded with a 3-1 victory over Coventry, moving out of the bottom three and up to 16th.However, Tottenham now face a much tougher test against Chelsea, who have won their last two Premier League matches. Meanwhile, Spurs have not won a league game at Stamford Bridge since April 2018, when Mauricio Pochettino’s side secured a memorable 3-1 victory.Credit: @gragrapix / InstagramAlan Shearer predicts Chelsea win against TottenhamChelsea have made an encouraging start to the season under Xabi Alonso, climbing to fourth in the Premier League table with 13 points from seven matches. The Blues have scored 17 goals so far, including five against Bournemouth in their previous home fixture. They followed that 5-1 victory with a 2-0 win away at Everton, keeping their first clean sheet of the campaign. Shearer believes Chelsea have started to look more solid defensively, with Moises Caicedo playing an important role.Writing in his Premier League predictions column for Metro, Shearer said:“I was impressed with Caicedo. Chelsea are looking a more well-rounded team and I think Caicedo’s played a huge part in that, he’s made the difference. It was only the last two or three games that that’s happened. I think the reason for that is because of what Caicedo gives you in midfield. Him and Henderson have done really well. No surprise they’ve stiffened up a bit with those two in midfield.“Spurs did all right. Great to see Maddison back and scoring a goal. Kulusevski came back in for the last few minutes, got a good reception. I still didn’t think they played great, despite getting a good result. So, I’m going to go Chelsea home win.”Shearer’s assessment suggests Tottenham still have plenty to prove, despite getting their first three points of the campaign on Monday. He was pleased to see James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski return to action, but felt Spurs’ overall performance left room for improvement.Chelsea’s recent results also make them difficult opponents, particularly with Tottenham’s poor record at Stamford Bridge. De Zerbi will be hoping his side can build on the Coventry win and produce a better performance against their London rivals.Tottenham have injury concerns ahead of Chelsea clashDe Zerbi has a number of selection problems to deal with ahead of Saturday’s match, although there has been some positive news on the injury front. Pedro Porro has returned to training and is available again after spending the past month on the sidelines. The Tottenham boss also confirmed that James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski will be available for the trip to Stamford Bridge. However, both players missed some training following the Coventry match, and De Zerbi is unsure whether either will be fit enough to start.Tosin Adarabioyo is another doubt after feeling pain during the second half against Coventry. De Zerbi described the problem as nothing serious, but admitted a decision had not yet been made on the defender’s availability.Meanwhile, Destiny Udogie remains sidelined after missing Monday’s victory. Lucas Bergvall, Savio, Xavi Simons, Mykhailo Mudryk and Wilson Odobert are also unavailable, while Rodrigo Bentancur is still serving his suspension following his red card at Old Trafford.Tottenham will have to make changes to their side once again, with De Zerbi facing some difficult decisions across the pitch. Ending an eight-year wait for a Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge would be a massive result and help to build on the win against Coventry.READ MORE: Chris Sutton shares his Chelsea vs Tottenham score predictionThe post Alan Shearer makes Chelsea vs Tottenham prediction after watching Spurs beat Coventry appeared first on Spurs Web.
