HBB: The 61.8% Line Is a Test, Not a Reversal SignalHamilton Beach Brands Holding Co. Class ABATS:HBBSmalldikenergyA Fibonacci level marks a place to test price behavior; touching it does not establish a reversal. Hamilton Beach Brands provides a dated daily example. The October 23 candle closed at $33.190, below the 61.8% retracement near $33.501, while still above a rising 55-day EMA at $32.327. Those two observations can coexist. They do not resolve the next session's direction. The anchors are the September 10 daily low of $29.490 and September 30 high of $39.990. Their difference is $10.500. Measuring a pullback from the high gives $39.990 minus 0.618 times $10.500, or $33.501. The midpoint is $34.740. That 50% reference is a common retracement convention, not a Fibonacci ratio. The other displayed retracements are $37.512 at 23.6%, $35.979 at 38.2%, and $31.737 at 78.6%. The anchors describe an observed upswing; moving them merely to make the latest candle look supported would change the question being tested. Friday opened at $33.390, reached $33.671 and traded down to $32.510 before closing $0.200 lower, down 0.60%. The upper part of its range crossed the retracement, but the close finished beneath it. Recent daily bodies have also stepped down from the September peak into a lower consolidation. RSI(14) is 44.49. A rising average describes the slower trend; momentum below its midpoint and a close below the retracement do not justify calling the pullback complete. A constructive lesson sequence would require a daily close above approximately $33.501 and then a separate return that holds. The $33.671 candle high is nearby; $34.740, $35.979 and $37.512 are progressively higher map references. A renewed close below $33.501 after reclaim would defeat that immediate condition. These are conditional checkpoints, not a claim that every intermediate price will become resistance. On the weaker route, a daily close below $32.510 followed by a rejected recovery would bring the moving $32.327 average, $31.737 retracement and $29.490 swing origin into the review. A sustained loss of $29.490 invalidates the anchored advance itself. The lower 1.272 and 1.618 extensions at $26.634 and $23.001 describe conditional continuation geometry after failure; they are not imminent forecasts. Recovering and holding $32.510 would undermine the initial breakdown condition. This is a closed-session chart lesson through October 23, not new earnings research or an executed trade. Refresh actual price, spread, liquidity and opening gaps before using the map; an exit trigger does not guarantee an execution price. Discussion: would you wait for the $33.501 reclaim-and-held-return, or for a deeper reaction near the rising average—and which observed failure would make you abandon that choice?
