Tottenham Hotspur are still waiting for their first-choice left-back Destiny Udogie to return from injury, but the latest update from Roberto De Zerbi offers some hope ahead of a busy run of fixtures.Injuries and Destiny Udogie go hand in hand at this point. Since joining Tottenham in the summer of 2023, the Italian has not managed a season of more than 36 games, having missed a staggering 324 days through injury in the meantime. This season has been no different. Udogie has started just two Premier League games for Spurs because of persistent fitness problems, forcing summer arrival Andy Robertson to fill in for much of the campaign. The left-back missed Monday night’s 3-1 win over Coventry City as a precaution after experiencing discomfort in his knee. However, that precaution also ruled him out of Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.Speaking at his pre-match press conference, De Zerbi confirmed, “He’s (Udogie) not available. With the medical staff, we are trying to find the best way for him, because managing the player is anyway work.“But after Manchester United, I have not worked with him, and this is a problem. We are lucky because we have in the same position many solutions. Robertson, Ben Davies and Micky van de Ven, if we play three at the back. But we have to find the best for him and the best for us.”However, the Tottenham head coach has now offered some encouraging news about when supporters might see their first-choice left-back back in action.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramDestiny Udogie could return for Tottenham against Crystal Palace next weekendAn outstanding player on his day, which happens to be the rare occasion he is actually on the pitch, the good news is that Tottenham fans might not have to wait too long to see Udogie return.Speaking to the club’s official channels ahead of the Chelsea clash, De Zerbi provided a brief update on the Italian’s recovery, saying: “Destiny still feels pain. Nevertheless, the Spurs head coach has another option in Archie Gray. The youngster has filled in at left-back for Tottenham in the past and remains highly rated by his manager, despite spending much of this season covering at right-back.Asked about Gray‘s recent performances in the same club interview, De Zerbi was full of praise for the versatile youngster, saying:“He’s playing very well. In Manchester, as a right-back, he played very well. With Coventry, in different positions, he played very well as well. I think he’s improving. He’s becoming a mature player now, not just a young player. “He’s young, he’s still young in his age, but there’s an understanding of the game, understanding of the part of the game, understanding of the tactical disposition, the occupation, the principles of the play. He’s improving a lot.”READ MORE: Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur: Premier League preview and team news – Spurs WebThe post Roberto De Zerbi reveals when Tottenham could welcome Destiny Udogie back from injury appeared first on Spurs Web.
