Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur: Premier League preview and team news

Wait 5 sec.

Roberto De Zerbi will hope to be the man to end Tottenham’s Stamford Bridge hoodoo, as Spurs look to secure their first win at the ground in more than eight years when they take on Chelsea on Saturday afternoon. It was party time in North London on Monday as Tottenham Hotspur finally ended their six-game winless run in the Premier League, beating Frank Lampard’s Coventry City 3-1.The game also saw James Maddison start for the club for the first time in 536 days, and he announced himself in style by scoring an absolute banger in the 14th minute. Dejan Kulusevski also made the matchday squad for the first time in 526 days, and he had a warm welcome later on.It was not the usual electric and dominant display we have come to associate with De Zerbi‘s side, and the head coach has overseen better performances this season. For the first time in a while, though, Spurs showed real class in front of goal, and that was all that mattered. All three of Tottenham’s goals came from outside the box, making them the first Premier League side since Fulham against Leicester City in May 2023 to score three goals from outside the area in a single match.Xabi Alonso and Chelsea, meanwhile, have made a far better start to the season than their London rivals. The Blues sit fourth in the Premier League table with 13 points and 17 goals scored from seven games. They come into this fixture on the back of consecutive victories – first hammering Bournemouth 5-1 before beating Everton 2-0 last weekend.Credit: oscar.visualss / InstagramWhat time does Chelsea vs Tottenham kick off?Location: London, EnglandStadium: Stamford BridgeDate: Saturday, 24 October 2026Kick-off time: 5:30pm BSTReferee: Chris KavanaghVAR: John BrooksTottenham team newsPedro Porro has been sidelined for the past month through injury, but De Zerbi confirmed that the right-back is finally back and available to face Chelsea. On the opposite flank, however, there is less encouraging news, as Destiny Udogie remains unavailable for this fixture. As for the three players who limped off against Coventry – Omar Marmoush, Andy Robertson and Tosin Adarabioyo – they are all fit to feature.James Maddison is unfortunately a doubt, though, in what would be a huge blow for the visitors. The midfielder has missed three days of training since the Coventry game, while De Zerbi also revealed that Kulusevski trained individually during the first few days after Monday’s victory. The confirmed absentees are Lucas Bergvall, Destiny Udogie, Savio, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert, while Rodrigo Bentancur remains suspended.Chelsea team newsXabi Alonso confirmed that Malo Gusto is fit to return after missing Chelsea’s win over Everton last weekend. Pep Chavarria and Emmanuel Emegha, however, remain sidelined.Summer signing Emiliano Martinez was stretchered off in the second half against Everton following a nasty collision with Jarrad Branthwaite and the goalkeeper is expected to be out for at least the next few weeks.Chelsea will also be without captain Reece James and James Bynoe-Gittens.Predicted Tottenham line-upKinsky; Porro, Van Hecke, Van de Ven, Robertson; Tonali, Fernandes, Gallagher; Kudus, Solanke, Marmoush. It would have been a delight to see Maddison start this game, but hopefully Conor Gallagher can do at least half the job of filling his shoes, against his former and boyhood club.Speaking of former Chelsea players, Tosin Adarabioyo put in a good display against Coventry, so there is a faint possibility that De Zerbi could start him instead of Jan Paul van Hecke, who has looked a little shaky at the back lately. Our Chelsea vs Spurs score predictionThe two sides met as recently as this summer in a pre-season friendly in Australia, when De Zerbi’s Tottenham managed to beat Alonso’s Chelsea 2-1 despite playing with 10 men.Replicating that result against a much-improved Chelsea side at Stamford Bridge, however, will be a far tougher ask.Chelsea’s attack has proven to be one of the most dangerous in Europe at the moment, and Tottenham have been pulled apart far too easily by considerably less threatening attacks this season. Spurs will need to be much more disciplined without the ball or else Chelsea will not be showing any mercy.Mateus Fernandes should be one to watch, if he is finally given the chance to operate in his preferred No.8 role. The midfielder has not had many opportunities to showcase his full capabilities this season, and he will have a point to prove against a Chelsea side Spurs managed to beat over the summer.Predicting a Tottenham win at Stamford Bridge does not seem the most sensible call given the two sides’ contrasting form, but Monday’s victory offered a glimpse of what Spurs can do when they take their chances. If they can show the same class in front of goal against Chelsea, they could have a very good chance of leaving with all three points.Predicted score: Chelsea 1-2 Tottenham HotspurThe post Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur: Premier League preview and team news appeared first on Spurs Web.
