Love the job, hate the culture. Is it my unit that I am struggling with or nursing in general?

Wait 5 sec.

I am a new grad just a few months in and have found myself really annoyed with not only the unit gossip but also the sheer amount of time I am expected to spend outside of work doing work related things. We are expected to complete 8 hours of education each week (outside of our 3 12s) at a random education center. We are required to come in on our off days for our unit meetings (once a month). I have a life. I have a family to take care of. Finding daycare for an extra day outside of my 3 12 hour shifts is a hassle. I don’t want to spend my off days at work for meetings. On top of this, are only allowed 3 times to call off during a rolling calendar year before termination. At my previous job as a nurse extern we were allowed 6 times before being written up and in the state I lived in ALL employees accrue sick time that can be used at anytime without being reprimanded. Anddddd of course we don’t get breaks. Am I just being a baby or is this what I should “expect”? submitted by /u/Outrageous-Fact-9518 [link] [comments]
