Bournemouth owner Bill Foley wants to bring Champions League football to the south coast and is relishing the visit of Milan. The Cherries host the Italian giants at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday in only their third ever European game.Foley has been Bournemouth owner since December 2022GettyAmerican billionaire Foley, who has bankrolled the Cherries rise into Europe, also says they can win the Europa League this season.Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT ahead of arguably the biggest game in Bournemouth’s history, Foley said: “Little old tin pot Bournemouth playing AC Milan,” he said making a light hearted reference to their recent history that saw them climb from -17 points in League Two in 2008 to hosting the seven time Champions League winners.“It’s an honour but I don’t think it would be a surprise if we win. We deserve to win and I think we can go all the way. “I don’t want to make a prediction that we will because I end up getting in trouble when I started making predictions even though they usually come true.“I like our team. I like what we’ve done so far in Europa in the Europa League.“We have a big game on Thursday, and then if we can get to 15, 16 or 17 points we believe will avoid the knockout round and then anything can happen.“My number one ambition is to win a major trophy winner major and number two to qualify for the Champions League.“We have to do it consistently, by being numbers seven, six, five, four in the Premier League.“That’s the goal. I haven’t changed my goals.”What will happen with Alex Scott? One of Foley’s biggest challenges will be keeping hold of star player Scott.Bournemouth rejected a £64m offer from Chelsea for the 23-year-old in the summer and the Blues and Liverpool retain strong interest in the England international.talkSPORT understands Scott has rejected a new contract making him Bournemouth’s highest paid player and Foley says Cherries players earning six-figure salaries should become ‘commonplace’.talkSPORT understands Scott could leave in January if the right offer arrives, but Foley believes the south coast is the right place for himGettyHe added: “I think earning that kind of number should be commonplace, and we should be prepared to meet that challenge.“At this point, we’re convinced we’re the right place for Alex to be and to stay, and we’ll keep on addressing the contract issues with Alex as we move through this year.“We’d love to have Alex stay here and sign a new contract and be part of this team for the long haul. “We haven’t given up, but sometimes players get stars in their eyes, and they think that Chelsea or Manchester City is the right place to go.“We believe, if we keep on buying infrastructure and a common thread of leadership across the team then we will start keeping more and more players.“People will be surprised about that, and they’ll be able to earn substantial wages here.“We have to respect the fact that a lot of our players are younger, and they’ve come to Bournemouth with the expectation that they’ll get time to play and perhaps move on to a bigger team.“We recognise that my job is to make players feel comfortable and provide them with the infrastructure they need to understand that.Bournemouth host Milan, the seven time Champions League winners, at the Vitality on Thursday night in what is sure to be the biggest match in their history so farGetty“We’re serious about what we’re doing. We’re in a brand new performance centre and it is as state of the art as they come. “We’re happy with where we are and we believe we’ll start making progress in terms of retaining key talent. “It may not be this year, it may not be next year in terms of everyone, but we’re close. “We have to prove to the players this is a place they want to be and that they want to stay and they don’t want to move on because that’s the way we really build a successful team.”Marco Rose progressFinally, Foley praised new manager Marco Rose after the German picked up his first Premier League win at home to Sunderland on Sunday – two matches earlier than predecessor Andoni Iraola.Foley said: “Andoni had nine games and won the ninth game against Burnley, so we’re a little ahead of schedule compared to him.“The changes Marco is making are not like the changes Andoni made in terms of completely restructuring our offense and our defensive plans.Rose replaced Andoni Iraola at the Cherries this summerGetty“I feel like we let a few games get away and we have to be more consistent with our shots. “We have to execute a little bit better, but the team is a really good team, and they’re playing like a team, which is the most important thing to me.“Marco is a players’ coach. He’s empathetic, but he’s also very demanding.“I’m happy where we are, and now we have to get ready for the next transfer window to see what we need and what we need to add to make sure we drive on.“The team is ready; there’s no question about it.”Bournemouth vs Milan is live on talkSPORT from 8pm on Thursday 22 October
