I’m in nursing school, almost done with my RN then going to work and spend a year getting my BSN before going on to get my NP. That’s always been the plan, it’s what I want to do and it’s what I can afford. But I’m starting to regret it. Not because I don’t like the profession. But because no one respects me. I’m 3/4 of the way done with clinicals and it’s evident to me, nurses don’t get a lot of respect from doctors. I love learning about this stuff. And I really hope someday I will be as knowledgeable as an MD, I never plan to stop learning and I intend to get lots of experience. But I kind of wish I’d gone to traditional college on a premed track, then gone to medical school. People would have respected me more, patients will trust me more, and I would have a broader scope of practice. Now I will forever be sealed into the NP scope of practice. I’ll never get to do surgery, or have the same freedom of diagnosis and prescribing or even be a full medical staff member at most hospitals. And I also won’t get paid as much. Which isn’t that big of a deal, but it sort of is. To clarify, I’m a 19 year old female. submitted by /u/Double-Internal-3968 [link] [comments]
