The Human Rights Court 2 of the High Court in Accra has temporarily barred the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) from requiring 792 newly trained medical doctors to sit the Stage 1 Common Registration Examination (CRE) before obtaining provisional registration. The injunction also applies to the Attorney-General and the Ministry of Health, preventing them from enforcing the examination requirement until the court hears the substantive case and an application for an injunction on notice. The legal action was brought by the Federation of Ghana Medical Students’ Associations (FGMSA) and the affected students. In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the federation said the court’s decision effectively suspends the examination, which had been scheduled for Thursday, October 22.The examination was a prerequisite for the affected graduates to secure provisional registration and commence their housemanship.FGMSA has called on all parties involved to comply with the court’s directive while the legal process continues. The federation stressed that decisions with implications for the professional careers of graduating medical and dental students must be guided by the law, fairness and due process. It also expressed gratitude to its legal representatives, the affected graduating classes and medical and dental students for their support throughout the process.According to the federation, further information on the case will be made available through its official communication channels.
