Building an open-source AI app, but how do you afford to offer free daily AI credits to lots of users?

Wait 5 sec.

Hey everyone I'm currently building an open-source AI app that gives users a limited number of AI credits every day. My goal is to make AI tools accessible to more people without forcing everyone to pay for expensive subscriptions. But I've run into a problem that I'm sure other indie developers have faced. How do you handle AI costs when your app starts attracting users, especially when you're building on a tight budget? If 1,000 people start using the app every day, even small amounts of AI usage can become expensive. And if the app grows to 10,000 or 100,000 users, I obviously can't keep paying all those API bills out of my own pocket.I want to offer a useful free tier, but I also don't want to launch something that becomes financially impossible to maintain if it succeeds.I'd genuinely appreciate advice from people who have dealt with this problem in real life. I'm trying to make the right decisions before launching rather than discovering that I can't afford my own success. Thanks! submitted by /u/Economy-Mortgage-394 [link] [comments]
