I got tired of losing screenshots in my Downloads folder, so I built a visual library for Mac

Wait 5 sec.

Hi all! I'm a solo dev and this is Ambrel, a Mac app I've been working on for months. The problem was simple: I save tons of screenshots and images for inspiration, and I could never find them again. So now one shortcut (⌃⇧4) saves a capture along with the website it came from, and you can sort everything into boards. What I'm happiest with is search. You can search the text inside images, search by color, or on macOS 27 just describe what you're looking for ("living room with warm light"). Everything runs locally on your Mac. No account, no cloud. There's also a canvas for arranging references, palette export to CSS/Tailwind/SwiftUI, and a local MCP server so Claude, Cursor or Codex can read the boards you choose. It's free for 21 days, no account or card needed. After that it's a one-time purchase (no subscription). Honest feedback would mean a lot, especially about what's confusing or missing. https://ambrel.app submitted by /u/Embarrassed-Ebb-740 [link] [comments]
