Flightradar24 now charges for anything older than 12 hours, and I wanted my own copy. So I built Velocity: a docker compose stack that tracks live aircraft and ships from public ADS-B and AIS feeds (no API keys), records every position it sees to your own disk, and lets you scrub the map back to any moment. Mine has about 132M positions since August. Other bits: if you run your own ADS-B receiver, point it at your tar1090 and it folds that in area alerts to Discord, a webhook or ntfy aircraft can also replay from the public readsb archives back to 2024 an MCP server, so an AI agent can ask what's in an area and get each answer with its source and age What's rough: coverage is only as good as the public feeds and thin over open ocean, and the 3D globe wants a decent GPU (there's a lighter 2D map). I built it with a lot of help from Claude Code and review every change. I'd love feedback on whether the setup is clear enough to get running.
