First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, Raghoo Puri, raised the objection on Wednesday in the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee, responding to a report by Ben Saul, the Special Rapporteur on human rights while countering terrorism.Puri said the report referred to the UN Security Council listing the leader of the “India-based D-Company” in 2003 for links with Al-Qaeda, but failed to mention that Ibrahim had been wanted in India in connection with terror attacks since 1993.Puri said the UN’s sanctions listing records the reasons for the action and stressed that Ibrahim had fled India before being listed for links with Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. He said that Dawood Ibrahim resides in the same country where Osama bin Laden was found and neutralized.#IndiaAtUNRaghoo Puri, First Secretary, took part in the interactive Dialogue with Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism in the Third Committee of the General Assembly. He highlighted:➡️ Factual inaccuracies in reports of SRs are unacceptable.➡️ Report mentions listing of the leader of the “D-Company” for association with Al-Qaida. Read in isolation, it paints a very different picture from what is actual reality.➡️ Dawood Ibrahim, has been wanted in India for terror attacks since 1993. And this is clearly written in the narrative summary of the reasons of listing under the 1267 sanctions mechanism. He resides in the same country where Osama bin Laden was found and neutralized.➡️ HR Frameworks cannot be the refuge of the perpetrators of terror and those who propagate radicalization and extremism. Terrorism can never be justified.➡️ Pakistan’s statement is pure propaganda for narrow political gains of its actual rulers, its military.@PMOIndia @MEAIndia @IndianDiplomacy @PIB_India @airnewsalerts @DDNewslive @UN— India at UN, NY (@IndiaUNNewYork) October 22, 2026Puri also expressed concern over what he described as repeated factual inaccuracies in the special rapporteur’s reports, warning that such errors undermine the credibility of the United Nations and cause “tremendous harm” to the organisation.© IE Online Media Services Pvt LtdAdvertisementLoading Recommendations...AdvertisementAdvertisement
