Bitcoin: Is the Breakout Starting to Fail?Bitcoin / U.S. dollarBITSTAMP:BTCUSDMihai_IacobOver the past three months, Bitcoin has made an impressive recovery. After breaking above the neckline of an inverted head-and-shoulders pattern, the price rallied strongly, gaining roughly 40%. That move carried Bitcoin to a late-September high near $87,000. Since then, however, the price has shifted into a corrective phase and begun consolidating within a range. A Critical Area Under Pressure What makes this consolidation important is its location. Bitcoin is holding just above the former resistance around $82,500—a level that played a key role lately. After a confirmed breakout, former resistance often becomes support. Bitcoin’s ability to hold above this area would therefore help preserve the bullish structure. But the price action so far does not look particularly convincing. Instead of moving decisively higher, Bitcoin has stalled near its recent highs and is now testing the strength of the breakout zone. In my view, this raises the possibility that the move above resistance could turn into a false upside break. The current consolidation may be showing that sellers are becoming active before the market has confirmed whether the breakout can hold. Levels to Watch The $80,000 psychological level is the next important area. A decisive break below it would increase the risk of a deeper correction and could bring the $75,000 zone into focus. If selling pressure continues beyond that level, the next major support area would be around $66,000. Outlook Bitcoin’s broader breakout is not invalidated yet. The price is still trading near the former resistance zone, and the market needs to show whether buyers can defend it. For now, though, the rally has lost momentum. A sustained move below $82,000 would strengthen the case that the breakout is failing and shift attention towards $75,000, with $66,000 as a deeper downside level. The key question is whether Bitcoin can hold above the breakout area—or whether this consolidation is the beginning of a larger reversal.
