Made a tab manager for myself because my tab strip turned into tiny icons

Wait 5 sec.

I always have way too many tabs open. At some point the tab strip was just a row of favicons with no titles, so I started making a Chrome extension to deal with it. It's been on the store for about a month now and I keep adding stuff to it. It's called Tabumaru and it lists your tabs and tab groups in the side panel. You can search and drag tabs around, and the real tab order follows. My favorite feature is tabs slowly fading out when you haven't looked at them for a while. When they're "expired" it asks if you want to keep or close them. I made it ask by default because I didn't want it closing stuff behind my back. I also tried making the hover preview pop out next to the side panel. Turns out an extension can't draw outside its panel, so you have to open a separate window for it. On Linux (Wayland) that window kept showing up in the top left corner and stealing focus. Removed it the same day lol Oh and there's an octopus that reacts to your tab count. If you go over 100 tabs it catches fire. It doesn't send any data anywhere, everything stays in your browser. https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tabumaru/jhjohbgplbogmhlkjkafakgnclgpfkia Curious if the fading tabs thing sounds useful or just annoying to anyone else. submitted by /u/u-ekichi-dev [link] [comments]
