Hello! *Note: This post is for filling the role of a 2D artist to draw in or add additional details to existing Visual Novel Backgrounds, for an upcoming visual novel video game. **Also, please note: I am looking to have an artist actively draw in details that will intentionally “clash” with the existing art style of these backgrounds. (That is to say, please do not worry about having to try and make everything look “natural” and “fit in” with the existing scenes. With the art direction I’d like to take with this particular game, that is actually the opposite of what I’d like to do here.) Just to clarify a bit more, I’ll go ahead and attach some visual examples (from a different game, not my own!) of some “before” and “after” examples of what adding details to a visual novel background might “normally” look like. (With that, once again, please keep in mind that you will not be asked to try and make everything look perfectly “matching” like the “added-in details” look in the below example. This example is simply a more “typical” approach to this sort of thing, and I would actually fully encourage your own creative + artistic freedom with however you’d like to make the added details / items / props “stand out” in the scenes, be it having the objects appear unnaturally colored, done in a completely different or perhaps more “cartoony” art style, pixel art, more “realistic-looking” art, etc., etc., etc.) Finally, please note: •Absolutely none of the mentioned backgrounds that you’d be adding onto / drawing over were made with “AI” in ANY way whatsoever. With that, anyone who uses “AI” in ANY part of their work “process” need not apply. (I humbly ask that you simply respect my views on this and do not waste either of our time.) •My original budget for all the background art to be complete was set between $1000 and $5000 , though I truthfully do not know what to offer as a price range / budget for this “background edits / additions” Artist position. -With that, I would greatly appreciate your (at least “ballpark”) rates for this sort of work so that way we can both begin on the “same page” before we even consider moving forward on this together. •There are a total of (approximately) 40 backgrounds that would need things to be added into them / edited into them. Though, once again, this post is not searching for someone to create 40 background art pieces. That is the number of separate, already existing backgrounds that you would be adding some details onto. (With that, I truly hope the large number “40” will not “scare away” anyone who would otherwise be interested, especially since I hope for this to actually be relatively “simple”, “quick and dirty”, hopefully genuinely “fun” type of work.) •All of the locations have fully written descriptions that I will provide you with, and all of those descriptions very clearly state any “key” details that must be included in your “background editing” work. (That is to say, outside of maybe 1-3 objects per room, you can really “let loose” as much or as little as you’d like, so long as those important “key” details are included in one way or another.) •Please, to have us starting off on the “same page”, I would also greatly appreciate if you could please roughly “ballpark” how long you think completing this work would take you. **Of course, I would never look to “rush” an artist or really anyone at all, and I will absolutely always prioritize “quality” over a “faster” job. With that being said, the vast majority of this game is already complete and ready to be shipped to the developers, so obviously I am realistically looking for someone who can get this done efficiently and effectively. (while still making sure any “key details” from the written descriptions I will provide you with are included, of course.) •If you could also please directly attach a few examples of your work that may be even somewhat relevant to this particular job, I would greatly appreciate that as well! …. In short: If you like the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney games, if you like the Danganronpa video games, or if you even like the Persona 5 video game / its “spin-offs”: I would love to have you! In truth, I’d say I’m looking for a genuine human being who has an actual interest in this sort of stuff, above all else. (That is, for this specific task, I truly want this to be a “Have as much fun with it as you’d like!” sort of job, with as much or as little “artistic freedom” to be had as you’d like.) As this game now approaches the “final stretch” of the vast majority of its key pieces being finalized, completed, and put together, I’ve come to greatly value clear, open, genuine communication pretty much above all else. With that being said, if you actually cared enough to skim through this excessively “long-winded” post of mine, and you also feel confident in your abilities as a (2D visual) artist, and you actually think this job sounds like an even remotely “fun” time: I’d absolutely love to hear from you! Thank you so much for taking the time to scroll through all of this, and whether you think you’d be interested in taking on this job or not, I genuinely wish whomever may be reading this a genuinely great rest of your day and also a genuinely great day tomorrow as well! …… Thanks so much! All the best, -KM *End note: If (digitally) “vandalizing” a bunch of rooms and hallways with slaps of colored paint and crudely written graffiti writing sounds like fun to you: Please, apply for this job! **Also, obligatory clarification that this is absolutely NOT an “+18”, “adult”, “eroge” type of visual novel game. Again, if you like Ace Attorney, Danganronpa, Persona, etc., I feel (and hope) that this would be a happy fit for you! submitted by /u/1716Project [link] [comments]
