The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency has dismissed allegations by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding proposed changes to the ongoing 24-hour economy market project, while highlighting the development record of Member of Parliament Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah.Addressing the media, Constituency Communications Officer Biekpe Sylvester urged the public to disregard an October 16 press statement issued by the NPP’s Peter Nanson-Ninge, which alleged attempts to vary the scope of the market project.Mr Sylvester maintained that construction had advanced to a stage where modifications could no longer be made.“At the stage where the market has reached, there cannot be any project variation to it,” he stated. He questioned the NPP’s moral authority to criticise the project, arguing that it had taken the party nearly a decade to complete basic infrastructure in the community from which its communications officer hails.“It is surprising that a party that could not complete a simple warehouse at Charikpong… Sadly, a press statement released by Peter Nanson-Ninge comes from Charikpong. It took them eight good years to even complete a warehouse in his own hometown,” Mr Sylvester added. The rebuttal formed part of a broader press conference at which Mr Sylvester outlined the development interventions undertaken by Mr Sumah and the John Dramani Mahama administration over the past 21 months. He attributed the MP’s victory across all 114 polling stations in the 2024 parliamentary elections to his investments in rural infrastructure. He also noted that the NPP candidate lost at his home polling station in Sankana.Mr Sylvester defended the MP’s parliamentary record against claims that he had been inactive, pointing to his service on the Human Rights, Information and Communications, and Gender and Children committees. On education, he highlighted the disbursement of more than GH₵418,000 in tertiary education support through the Tess Fund, the distribution of over 16,000 free school uniforms and the release of GH₵70,000 for the renovation of Charikpong R/C Junior High School. On healthcare, the communications officer outlined interventions that included the construction of maternity facilities and health screenings across the district. He also used the occasion to urge constituents to undergo breast cancer screening.Acknowledging that Nadowli-Kaleo continued to face developmental challenges, Mr Sylvester called on residents to shun division and unite behind the MP to attract further investment to the constituency.
