hi guys ! so quick background history here…. I’ve been a nurse for five years. The bulk of my experience is level 1 trauma center pediatric/adult med surg with some pedi er and clinical management sprinkled in. i had my baby last year and she’s now 1. I have been home with her since march of this year because I was honestly losing my mind trying to juggle being fresh postpartum and working but I managed to stay with my most recent job (clinical manager) for a year before staying home with her as of march 2026. I do try to stay for a year or more with any job I take out of respect and being kind to other nurses who look forward to not being short staffed. But obviously all of that was before having a child. so this is where things get interesting lol after much discussion, my fiancé started in the trucking industry (which is also why I stayed home because I knew he would be gone) because there was more opportunity for him there which is fine but at the beginning during his 3 month training he wasn’t able to handle it at first so he came home after and decided to try to find other jobs. so when he came back home that meant I had to start looking for jobs as well. so because he was deciding to do something not related to trucking I applied for beside jobs because I knew he would be here to watch our baby on the weekends and such. so after like a month of me looking for jobs I finally get some interviews and got one for a general surgery floor at the hospital I used to work at for five years. I accepted it because again at the time he was still looking for other jobs that would work with that bedside schedule. so after accepting it. my fiancé get a job offer for a private trucking company which is WAY better than these mega trucking places in terms of money and home time so because he realized the grass was not greener he accepted It. which is great but also I’m now in a situation where I have this beside job where I work weekends and he wont be here anymore. so my question is has anyone else had to let their job know they can’t continue due to a change in family dynamic after only completing hospital orientation? I am going to try to do a month of orientation but because I’ll be with a preceptor it’s not like I’m really helping them at all you know. so in a way I feel like that’s selfish of me. it’s just hard because normally I would never ever leave a job like this but I mean I can’t neglect my child and my line of work has more opportunities than his so it’s just one of those things where timing is all messed up and I now have a baby I have to take care of and unfortunately being a nurse really conflicts with child care especially while soloparenting. we do have friends and my sister that has been helping so far but that’s only going to last for so long. I understand everyone has their own stuff going on so I don’t expect help for 14+ hour days on weekends. and the applicants on care. Com aren’t the greatest I have had one that actually seems like she’s doing it because she genuinely loves kids. the hospital I’m at now is my first choice in the area I’m at because they really have a great team. me leaving is only because of work schedule conflict and I’m starting to think I will most likely stay home until he gets enough experience to start druving locally unless I get a 9-5 RN job in the area I live in. that would work because I would be able to pick up and drop off my baby. but we all know how that goes. and I am totally fine staying home with her I actually prefer that but I also understand what I’m doing is not ideal. so if there is anyone else that can relate to this please let me know how your experience was. submitted by /u/Abject-Wrangler4529 [link] [comments]
