I'm an embedded engineer. Somehow I ended up building a 3D DICOM viewer for phones.

Hey everyone! I'm an embedded software engineer. Most of my work is related to industrial systems, computer vision, and edge computing. A while ago, for some personal reasons, I needed to work with medical imaging files. One thing led to another, and what started as a small personal project turned into something much bigger than I originally planned :) Together with a friend who's a practicing hand surgeon, we started building MIDRC, a DICOM viewer for iPhone, iPad, and Android. The most interesting (and sometimes frustrating) part for me was getting 3D volume rendering to work smoothly on mobile devices. When people talk about edge computing, they usually think of Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, or industrial hardware. But smartphones and tablets are pretty powerful edge devices too. So we decided to keep the processing and rendering local, without relying on cloud servers. We ended up implementing MPR, curved MPR, interactive 3D volume rendering, measurements, and a few other tools. And somehow, after a lot of work, we now have an Android version published on Google Play and a public iOS beta on TestFlight. The app is completely free for now. Honestly, we're engineers, not salespeople, and we haven't really figured out monetization yet. Right now, we're much more interested in finding people who actually need something like this and hearing what they think. Also, I'm not a designer, so I used generative AI to help me with parts of the UI. Feel free to roast that part too :) Just to be clear, the app is intended for educational and non-diagnostic use. If anyone is curious, here's the website with screenshots and links to both versions: https://vschwan.com/midrc/ I'd really appreciate some honest feedback. And for those of you who've built niche side projects, how did you go about finding your first real users?
