Aidan O'Brien will saddle three of the seven runners in his pursuit of a 13th victory in the G1 William Hill Futurity Trophy at Doncaster on Saturday.Last month's G2 Beresford Stakes winner Noble Exhibit (Frankel) heads the betting as he attempts to emulate the likes of Saxon Warrior (2017), Luxembourg (2021), Hotazhell (2024) and Hawk Mountain (2025) by following up on Town Moor. The son of Frankel is joined from Ballydoyle by the G2 Futurity Stakes scorer Giant Sequoia (Frankel), who needs to bounce back from a below-par display in the G1 National Stakes, and Sergei Diaghilev (Wootton Bassett), who is seeking a first Group-race success after runner-up efforts in the G2 Champagne Stakes and G3 Autumn Stakes.Victory for one of the three O'Brien-trained runners in the £275,000 Futurity Trophy would go a long way to securing him a ninth British trainers' championship, but Andrew Balding is not going down without a fight and will saddle Gran Dia (Lope De Vega) as he seeks a third win in the final Group 1 of the British Flat season, having previously been successful with Elm Park (2014) and Kameko (2019).Gran Dia, who impressed when making a successful debut at Salisbury at the beginning of the month, now faces a marked step up in class, with his connections keen to test their colt's capabilities at the top level before the season draws to a close.“After he won at Salisbury, we discussed the options and, in reality, there is a shortage of races he could run in,” said Sean Graham, racing manager for Tony Bloom, who owns the 380,000gns buy alongside Ian McAleavy. “They've been very happy with him at Andrew's since Salisbury and the plan is to run.“He's a horse who has won a maiden going straight into a Group 1 and we're under no illusions how difficult that will be. But we want to give him a second run before the end of the year and we're short of options unless you wanted to travel with him.“We're going to be taking on battle-hardened two-year-olds who have runs under their belt and our fellow has only had one, so it will be very much a learning curve for him. But we hope he goes there and shows enough to think we can be dreaming with him over the winter.”The pick of the home team appears to be Karl Burke's dual Haydock winner and G2 Royal Lodge Stakes runner-up Burning Up (Too Darn Hot), while joint-trainer William Muir has made no secret of the regard in which he holds Breacher (Cracksman), who promises to be suited by the step up to a mile having finished third behind Desert Castle (Frankel) and Sergei Diaghilev in the Champagne Stakes last time. The small but select field is completed by the Charlie Appleby-trained Al Hudaiba (Dark Angel), who claimed his fourth win from six career starts when landing last month's GI Summer Stakes at Woodbine.David Attwood, senior clerk of the course at Doncaster Racecourse, said, “We're delighted with the quality of the field declared for this year's William Hill Futurity Trophy Stakes. It's fantastic to see some of the leading yards from Britain and Ireland represented, and it promises to be a fascinating renewal.“The Futurity Trophy is always one of the highlights of our season here at Doncaster, with a tremendous history of producing future Classic winners. It's a race that gives us an exciting glimpse of the stars of tomorrow.“Our team is working hard to ensure the track is presented in the best possible condition, and we're really looking forward to welcoming connections and racegoers to Town Moor on Saturday for what should be a superb day of racing.”The post Noble Exhibit Leads O’Brien Trio in Futurity Trophy Title Decider appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
