Wanted a better way to control my PC from the couch, so I built a phone remote with a dial, smart buttons and a screen stream ergonomic option

Wait 5 sec.

Started as a lazy-evening idea: move the mouse from my phone and hit Alt+F4 without getting up. It kind of turned into a proper remote. The part I'm proudest of is the design. I tried to take UX laws seriously: big targets where your thumb lands, only a few options on screen with the rest one tap away, icons with labels on long-press, and a different vibration for each action so you can use it without looking. Some bits I like: The dial: Alt+Tab redone for touch. Hold and slide, and your window icons slide past. Smart card: shows the app in front and swaps its four buttons to match (Stremio, YouTube, Spotify, PowerPoint…). Interactive tutorial where you actually try each control. Themes: a clean dark one, a Frutiger Aero light one with bubbles and drifting clouds, and a hidden one. Stack: a small Python server (aiohttp + WebSocket, pynput, some WinAPI via ctypes) and the whole phone UI in a single HTML file. GitHub Actions builds the Windows .exe. Built with heavy help from Claude (AI); the design calls, testing and decisions were mine. Free and open source, and I'd love feedback on the UX. https://github.com/civercras/pc-remote-app submitted by /u/civercras [link] [comments]
