Printable mystery kits where all the evidence is office paperwork (free 15-minute starter case, plus a 60–90 min case)

Wait 5 sec.

Disclosure first: I made these, and the three "evidence photos" in Case 01 are AI-generated. The puzzles and writing were designed and playtested by hand, and AI tools helped with layout and text editing. Both store pages say so. Fair warning for this sub: nobody dies. These are bureaucratic mysteries. You get a stack of in-world records (incident reports, interview logs, evidence tags, a memo that's mostly blacked out) and work out what the department isn't saying. It's the deduction half of a murder mystery without the party half: no roles, no costumes, and nobody has to act. Case 0: The Complimentary Pen (free). 4 pages, about 15 minutes. A pen leaves the Front Desk and never comes back. It teaches the one mechanic the longer case uses. https://thislooksofficial.itch.io/case-0-the-complimentary-pen Case 01: The Regret Machine ($9). 14 pages, 60–90 minutes, 1–4 players. A night custodian buys a can labelled "What If" from a vending machine that Facilities says isn't there. A sealed host/solution guide with tiered hints is included, so it works solo. https://thislooksofficial.itch.io/case-01-the-regret-machine Print in black and white and solve with a pencil. Your final answer is a code you can check on a companion site (archivefictions.com). It tells you whether you're right without showing the answer to anyone else at the table. A question for people who run mystery nights: would a sit-down deduction file with no roles work as a warm-up or after-dinner game, or does a group need character roles for it to land? submitted by /u/TLOfiles to r/MurderMystery [link] [comments]
