Arsenal’s sole victory away at Bayern came in March 2013 (2–0), though Bayern advanced on away goals. Prior to the new league phase format, Bayern eliminated Arsenal from the Champions League knockout stages four separate times (2005, 2013, 2014, and 2017). Bayern have scored 36 goals in their last 10 matches, they registered 50 shots on goal in their last two matches. 📸 Previously in this fixture... We last faced Bayern Munich last year at home in the league phase where we won with a nice 3-1 scoreline. Goals from Timber, Madueke, and Martinelli sealed the victory as Karl scored for the visitors to deny us a clean sheet. Merino start up front in the absence of Gyokeres and Havertz, which proved to be no issue to our goalscoring ability on the night. The only time we’ve ever won there was a 0-2 victory in May 2013, which ended up being meaningless as Bayern won the reverse fixture 1-3 sending them through on away goals. I don’t need to mention the various 5-1 thrashings we’ve had at the hands of Bayern, so let’s let bygones be bygones; we’re a much different team now compare to what we were back then. That’s not to say that Bayern are no longer a formidable opponent, that couldn’t be further from the truth. What has changed though is us; we don’t get thrashed anymore. We haven’t lost a game by a four goal margin since 2021 at Anfield, and the last time we lost by a four goal margin in Europe was that very fixture against Bayern. The point is, we don’t have to go into these games with fear. Harry Kane, who is back to wearing red, has reached new heights as a goalscorer since leaving the Titanic, scoring 102 goals in 100 Bundesliga games, smashing the previous record which was 72. There are shouts for him to win the Ballon D’or, which I can’t even lie and pretend he doesn’t deserve it. He also has a penchant for scoring against Arsenal, netting 15 times in 22 games against us, although only 1 of those was at Bayern (penalty at the Emirates, I was there, horrible stuff). We have been the best league stage UCL team over the past 2 years, without a loss since November 2024 against Inter. This game is probably our toughest match up in the competition since then, not counting knockout games. We had some pretty incredible luck when it came to the draw last season, and now it’s time to be fully tested against Europe’s elite. https://anditsarsenal.com/2026/10/20/bayern-munich-vs-arsenal-21st-october-2026-uefa-champions-league-match-preview/ submitted by /u/Mahoganychicken [link] [comments]
