Hey everyone, Whenever I solve past papers using my graphic tablet connected to my laptop, I always run into the same annoying issue: almost every past paper available is a low-quality phone scan covered in someone else's handwritten notes, pencil scribbles, and red grader checkmarks. I used to spend way too much time taking screenshots, whiting out notes, and pasting questions into note apps just to have clean space to practice. To fix this, I built Exam Digitizer—a free, open-source web app that cleans up and formats past exams: What it does: Removes handwritten clutter: Uses AI (Gemini) to transcribe questions while stripping away student scribbles, grader marks, and scan noise. Formats math properly: Converts formulas into crisp, readable LaTeX / KaTeX math notation. Interactive diagram cropper: Lets you crop figures, graphs, and circuit diagrams straight from the original scan and embeds them into the worksheet. Custom solve spaces: Adds ruled lines under questions (e.g. 6 or 12 lines) so you actually have room to write your answers. A4 Print / Tablet Ready: Exports clean, print-ready A4 PDFs ready for annotating with your preferred app, or standard paper printing. How to get a free Gemini API key (~1 min): The app uses Google's Gemini API, which has a generous free tier (no credit card needed): Go directly to Google AI Studio API Keys and sign in with your Google account. Click "Create API key" (accept terms if it's your first time). Paste it into the Settings icon in the app. Privacy: It’s 100% free and open-source. Runs entirely in your browser. No files are uploaded to any backend server. Your API key is stored only in your browser's local storage and communicated directly to Google's official API. If you encounter any issues or have suggestions, please feel free to drop a comment or open a GitHub issue. https://reddit.com/link/1xcrmxk/video/hd7mbix7h2xh1/player Feedback and feature requests are very welcome! Hope this saves some of you the headache it used to give me during finals. submitted by /u/Daryl_Dixon19 to r/SideProject [link] [comments]
