The itch: my local dev setup had become a junk drawer. A hosts-file hack (or three) for local domains, one app to inspect traffic, another API client, a separate mock server just so that I don't have to change URL's and ports in the app configs, browser flooded with content overrides, 2 different api clients cause one of them did not support multi workspace on free tier and an api mocking app cause content overrides doesn't support non existent API. What I built: Bifurc — one desktop app (Windows / macOS / Linux) that does the whole pile: - Gives every local service a real .localhost domain with HTTPS, and captures traffic through a forward proxy - API client for REST, GraphQL, gRPC, SOAP, WebSocket, SSE, Socket.IO, MCP and webhooks - Mocks that live at the proxy layer, so your app hits the mock the same way it hits the real thing - Workspaces that sync through git — requests, mocks and config live in your repo, and secrets sit in passphrase-encrypted vaults so they can be committed safely The newest parts: a visual Flows builder (chain requests, branch on responses, loop, load-test, even generate a flow from captured traffic), a local mail inbox (SMTP catch-all on port 1025 for testing your app's emails), and a CLI designed for AI agents — with a policy.yaml that can deny an agent's calls or hold them for your approval before anything fires. The whole thing is Rust — engine, CLI, and the UI (GPUI, the framework from the Zed editor). Rewriting the UI from Electron to GPUI was the single biggest detour of the project and I'd do it again. It's free, no account, no paid tier. And it's early-stage: I built it for my own workflow, I use it every day, and I'm fixing bugs and refining it as I go expect rough edges, and please tell me about them. 🔗 https://bifurc.app — What I'd love from this sub: try it against your own local stack and tell me where it breaks or what your current tool does that it doesn't. Launch-day feedback is the most useful kind and I'll be in the comments all day. Transparency: I'm Harshal, Bifurc's developer.
