Subnautica 2 is heading for 'Early access 2.0,' which brings 'one of our scariest regions we've ever done'

Wait 5 sec.

Subnautica 2, a game so popular its original publisher will never forgive it, is gearing up for the next phase of its early access existence. In the first of a new vlog series, creative director Anthony Gallegos said that the game is preparing to move into "early access 2.0," which Unknown Worlds is calling its "most substantial update" since the game hit last May."EA 2, as we call it, is going to be an update that adds not only a complete new playable region with several new biomes within it, but it's also going to add a lot of new story elements," said Gallegos. That means more tales of the good ship Cicada's colonists and the game's "other beings." There will also be new creatures for you to not kill. But—and it is October, after all—the most intriguing thing Gallegos promises is that "this is one of our scariest regions we've ever done." It's dark and filled with things that mean you ill. "It's dark, it's threatening, and it's really beautiful at the same time," said Gallegos, who might possibly have been describing me. Oh, and if you're a fan of the Collector Leviathan, Unknown Worlds is updating its behaviour to make it "scarier than ever," though it does not say how. Aside from that? Some new gadgets to muck about with, new biomods, and a change to how dash works. You're getting a new chassis for the Tadpole, called the frog chassis, which will give you the benefit of arms and legs. As for dash? Rejoice, it's now going to be right there on your fins, rather than operating as a biomod. "You no longer have to think about what active biomod [you] to take instead of dash; you just take dash."2026 games: All the upcoming gamesBest PC games: Our all-time favoritesFree PC games: Freebie festBest FPS games: Finest gunplayBest RPGs: Grand adventuresBest co-op games: Better together
