Most automated expense trackers read your SMS or store your bank transactions on cloud. I built a privacy-first alternative using Account Aggregators where all data stays on your phone.

Hey r/SideProject, Like many of you, I wanted an expense tracker that just works without feeling like a chore. But the options out there are broken: you either spend 10 minutes a day manually logging coffee receipts, give up your privacy to apps that scan your personal SMS box, or hand over your bank transactions. So I spent the last few months building P.E.T (Pocket Expense Tracker). It completely automates expense tracking, but does it with zero data tracking and absolute privacy. How it works under the hood: Automated via Account Aggregator (AA): It securely fetches your UPI, card, and bank transactions using India’s official, read-only Account Aggregator framework. No bank passwords, no scraping, and no transaction permissions. 100% On-Device Storage: Your financial history belongs to you. Every single transaction pulled via the AA network is processed and stored strictly locally on your mobile device. There is no central server storing your net worth. No SMS Scanning: Unlike older automated budget trackers, this requires absolutely zero permission to read your personal text messages. The app is in its BETA testing phase and I am looking for early users to test the sync speeds and UI layout. If you value your financial privacy but hate manual logging, I’d love your brutal feedback on it! Let me know your opinion in the comments and if you'd like to take a look at the app and help out in testing it. submitted by /u/AggressiveWorld3980 [link] [comments]
