From night markets and local eateries to retailers at popular tourist destinations in Taiwan, Singapore travellers can now use the familiar PayLah! app for everyday purchases without needing to download a separate payment app or rely solely on cash. Today, more than three million DBS PayLah! users can scan to pay at over 250,000 participating merchants across Taiwan, covering about two-thirds of the TWQR (Taiwan QR Code) merchant network. Payment acceptance will expand progressively as more TWQR providers come on board, with PayLah! users expected to make QR payment across the full participating TWQR merchant network in 2027.As the first Singapore bank to connect its customers to Taiwan’s TWQR network, DBS is expanding its cross-border QR payment capabilities to another popular travel destination. This adds to its existing coverage across Indonesia’s QRIS, Malaysia’s DuitNow, Thailand’s PromptPay and UnionPay globally.Said Chan Sow Han, Head of Payments and Unsecured Lending, Consumer Banking Group, DBS Singapore, “Across Asia, people have different ways of paying for everyday purchases, shaped by the local payment systems they use. At DBS, we're working with partners to bring more of these systems within reach of our customers, so that paying overseas feels as familiar and straightforward as it does at home. Take-up of our cross-border QR payment services remain strong, with transaction volumes growing 2.5 times year-on-year and the number of unique users doubling. Our collaboration with Taiwan's TWQR builds on this momentum, bringing consumers and merchants across Asia closer together and making it easier for customers to pay wherever their journeys take them.”The launch brings to market the cross-border payment initiative announced in April 2026 between Singapore’s NETS and Taiwan’s Financial Information Service Co. (FISC), which developed the TWQR network. It also builds on strong travel ties between both markets, with Singapore ranking among Taiwan’s top 10 visitor source markets in 2025. 1Greater cross-border payment convenience for travellers and merchantsToday, PayLah! users can scan eligible TWQR codes from participating providers, including iPass Money, Taiwan Pay, PXPay Plus and Easy Wallet, at over 250,000 merchants displaying the TWQR acceptance mark or QR payment notices bearing the TWQR label. To pay, users simply need to open the latest version of PayLah! and scan the QR code. Before confirming payment, PayLah! users can view the amount in Taiwan Dollars (TWD), the applicable exchange rate and the final amount payable in Singapore dollars.Next year, PayLah! users will be able to scan to pay at all participating merchants across the TWQR network, including those bearing JKO Pay QR codes. DBS will also introduce a merchant-scan-customer payment option in Taiwan, allowing major retailers in Taiwan to scan PayLah! user QR codes.NoYesPayments21 Oct, 2026
