Darkuman–Kaneshie road works move to 24-hour schedule

Wait 5 sec.

Construction works on the Darkuman Junction–Kaneshie First Light road corridor in Accra are being carried out around the clock as the Ministry of Roads seeks to accelerate rehabilitation and minimise delays in completing the project. The decision to adopt a 24-hour schedule is expected to increase the pace of work on the busy route, where damaged road surfaces and inadequate drainage have created difficulties for motorists and other road users. The project involves road repairs, civil engineering works and the installation of underground storm drains. Awerco Construction Limited is among the contractors undertaking the works, which extend from Atico Junction through Kaneshie First Light to Hansonic Junction. The rehabilitation is expected to improve movement along a corridor linking communities such as Darkuman, Kaneshie and Dansoman, while addressing drainage problems that have contributed to the deterioration of sections of the road.Work began on August 21, 2026, following the engagement of contractors by the Ministry to repair damaged stretches and improve the drainage system.Construction activities, particularly excavation and drain installation, have resulted in localised traffic adjustments along parts of the route. Motorists may therefore encounter changes in traffic flow as work progresses. When completed, the project is expected to improve the flow of stormwater, restore worn-out road surfaces and enhance safety for commuters. The extended works are also intended to improve connectivity along the corridor and make daily journeys easier for residents and motorists.
