I kept saving recipe videos I never cooked, so I built an app that turns them into actual recipes

Wait 5 sec.

My saved folder on Instagram was full of recipes I never made. When I finally wanted to cook one, I had to pause the video every five seconds, and half the time the amounts were only spoken, never written down. So I built Matlyst. Share a reel, a TikTok, a YouTube video or any recipe site to the app, and you get a clean recipe: ingredients, steps, photo and a link back to the creator. It also translates recipes from other languages and converts units. That mattered a lot here in Norway, where most of what I saved was in English. Then I added what I needed after saving: a weekly meal plan a shopping list you can share with your household a cook mode that shows one step at a time, with only the ingredients for that step It's been my evening project since April, next to a full-time job. I'm not a developer..I vibe coded it with Claude. It's been live in Norway for a few months and just launched in the US and most other countries. It's free to try: 5 imports a month, and the meal plan and shopping list are free. What I'd love feedback on: when you save a recipe video, what usually stops you from actually cooking it? https://apps.apple.com/us/app/matlyst-video-to-recipe/id6762563515 submitted by /u/Constant-Ad3689 [link] [comments]
