The Walt Disney Company is not talking about Bruno… According to producer Yvett Merino, Walt Disney Animation Studios doesn’t have plans for a sequel to the wildly popular film Encanto (2021).Encanto 2? Unlikely.Credit: DisneyDuring an interview with The Direct promoting the upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios original film, Hexed (2026), Yvett Merino, Creative Executive at Walt Disney Animation Studios, addressed the possibility of a sequel to Encanto. The 2021 film had a modest box-office performance after the COVID-19 pandemic, but saw groundbreaking success on Disney+.Unfortunately, even following the success of Zootopia 2 (2025) and Moana 2 (2024), Merino confirmed that there have been no discussions at Disney about greenlighting an Encanto 2. But she isn’t saying “no” to the idea.“No, but I’m always here for it,” she said. “Encanto is the first film that I produced, and it really holds a very special place in my heart, because it’s about a Latino family in the forefront. So anything that has to do with the world of Encanto, I’m in for.”Credit: DisneyIn a 2023 interview with The Direct, Merino teased that Disney was continuing to “look at different ways that [they] can keep the world alive” for Encanto fans around the world.Bruno’s voice actor, John Leguizamo, said in 2025 that he’d “love to see a sequel” to Encanto. The Future of Encanto at DisneyEven though an Encanto sequel isn’t in development (yet!), Mirabel Madrigal and her magical family are headed to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, where they’ll play a central role in the developing Tropical Americas land called Pueblo Esperanza.Credit: DisneyThe land will include a wood-carved carousel called El Carrusel de los Animalitos, featuring various animals from Disney films, Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent (the reimagined DINOSAUR attraction), and Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, inspired by the magical home of the Madrigal family, Casita, from Encanto.
